BRICS 2026 Presidency Launch

BRICS is a pivotal intergovernmental alliance comprising major emerging economies that serves as a political and diplomatic coordination forum for the Global South. Representing approximately 49.5% of the global population and nearly 40% of global GDP, the bloc acts as a critical counterweight to Western-dominated institutions like the World Bank and the IMF. For India, BRICS is a strategic necessity for maintaining a multipolar world order, balancing the Russia-China axis, and accessing developmental financing through the New Development Bank, which has already funded 18 projects in India totalling USD 6.9 billion.

On 13 January 2026, India reached a significant milestone in its diplomatic calendar by officially unveiling the logo and website for its BRICS 2026 Presidency. During a high-profile ceremony in New Delhi, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar launched the presidency, marking the grouping’s 20th anniversary since its inception. The event showcased India’s people-centric vision for the alliance under the theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”.

The newly unveiled logo is deeply symbolic, drawing inspiration from the lotus, India’s national flower, to represent collective strength and unity. Its design features inner petals forming a “Namaste” gesture, signifying warmth, respect, and harmonious collaboration. Furthermore, five petals are specifically coloured to represent the founding members—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—highlighting the group’s inclusive nature. Alongside the logo, the official website (brics2026.gov.in) was launched to serve as a common platform for disseminating information on upcoming meetings and strategic initiatives. This launch signals India’s readiness to lead the expanded ten-nation bloc toward enhanced global welfare and resilience.
