Kangana Ranaut Joins National Handloom Day Celebration, Calls for Global Recognition of Indian Weaves

On August 7, 2025, the Ministry of Textiles and the Office of the Development Commissioner for Handlooms celebrated the 11th National Handloom Day with a grand event at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The celebration was a vibrant tribute to India’s handloom legacy and honored the nation’s weavers and artisans.

The event featured key dignitaries,including Union Minister Giriraj Singh, Minister of State Pabitra Margherita, Secretary Neelam Shami Rao, and actress‑MP Kangana Ranaut, all emphasizing the country’s commitment to empowering handloom communities. Kangana Ranaut stood out both for her presence and her message. Outfitted in traditional Indian weaves, she later shared on Instagram that she felt “a moment of pride” in participating in the celebration. She praised the government’s push from ‘Vocal for Local’ to ‘Global Recognition’ for artisans and urged everyone to honor and promote local handcrafted textiles.

True to its spirit, the event also showcased a handloom and handicraft exhibition under the E Nurture initiative, a CSR program by India Exposition Mart Ltd. (IEML) in collaboration with the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH). This platform brought rural artisans face-to-face with the public and industry players via the Expo Bazaar e-commerce platform—offering them greater visibility and market opportunities.

The displays included exquisite weaves such as Jamdani, Chanderi, Ikat, and Bhujodi—highlighted not just as fabrics, but as cultural artifacts. The underlying message? India’s handloom traditions are evolving—and deserve to be seen as luxury on the global stage.
