Microsoft launches Open Service Mesh

Imagine it's time for an online meeting. Instead of clicking on a zoom/google meet link, you put on an AR/VR headset. And rather than staring at your co-workers through tiny windows, you interact with their avatars in a virtual space. That's the vision for the mesh. Microsoft debuts this software aimed at broadening VR experiences. Officials showed off demos and futuristic scenarios involving Mesh on March 2, the first day of it's virtual Ignite 2021 Spring conference.

Mesh is a collaborative platform that allows anyone to have shared virtual experiences on a variety of devices. Initially, it would present people as virtual avatars taken from the Altspace VR social network that Microsoft acquired back in 2017. Eventually, Microsoft's idea of holoportation would be supported and this would be a breakthrough in the online interaction arena.
