"Your net worth is your network"

Echoes Club interviewed Mr Sai Siddhartha Maram, who is currently working as a software development intern at Invento Robotics, has done research internships from some prestigious institutes like the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Q- How did you grasp such great research internships even before completing your graduation?

A- Opportunities are lurking out there, we just need to be proactive at hunting them. Writing 400+ emails to professors and experts, ensuring they stand out from others did call for my hard work. Networking with people through Twitter and LinkedIn and exploring my professor's works since my first year has helped me towards my ambitions of higher studies abroad. Media platforms like Twitter and LinkedIn are often quite handy in such prospects.

Q- What do you think is a better choice, placements or research?

A- Research is a hefty thing, but don't let that scare you. While placements tend to temp you for it seems to be a safer option, but pursue some research internships to decide if there lies your true potential or not. Unlike placements, the struggles in research are a gateway to new opportunities, making you aware of the notions in research and it's future.

Q- Does the scarcity of opportunities or resources ever hinder your confidence?

A- Having given it quite a thought, I've come to look at it differently. Be ambitious in life. To reach the 8th mile, aim for the 11th and you will fall somewhere near the 8th. Fear itself creates self-awareness and helps us grow.

Q- How have the past four years of college shaped you?

A- Thapar gave me the freedom to explore. Meanwhile, this exposure also calls for an enormous amount of focus. After gaining that, nothing can distract you. Thanks to these experiences, I have become a much more confident individual as compared to my formative self.

Q- What have you focused on, apart from academics, to stand out from the crowd?

A- Presentation specifics pull you out from billions. I have always put more emphasis on designs, how things are kept on the table, and the communication of thought processes.

Q- According to you, is working in societies a waste of time?

A- Societies grant you confidence. You learn to make your world count without hampering other life aspects. They add a cherry on top as long as you bake your cake in time. So, manage your activities and time well.

Q- Any piece of advice for the students who find themselves lost?

A- Be consistent, work hard and trust yourself. Face your fears rather than abandoning them, and you will shine brighter than ever.
