Echoes Club interviewed Shivam Goyal, who is currently interned at Google and is a 4th year Computer Science student. He has won many hackathons and is a coding enthusiast.
Q. What do you think are the qualities or attributes that companies look for, while recruiting students?
A. Principally they look for a profile that has a density to learn or has some experience in the field. You should make different resumes according to the need of the job. Leadership quality is the one thing that everyone looks for while recruiting.
Q. Since when did you begin to code and how has it helped you?
A. I started coding in grade 9 and it surely has helped me. Everyone might know the same concepts but your experience is something that makes the real difference.
Q. Is facing interviews challenging?
A. Getting shortlisted is more difficult than facing the interview. The interviewers are supportive and they ask some basic questions. You just need to have the imperative skillset.
Q. What is the work culture at Google and what is it like to be a part of such a prominent company?
A. The work culture is pretty great. You get extra facilities and perks when you are in offline mode. People are very supportive. However, that interaction part is missing as of now.
Q. Any advice for beginners related to programming?
A. The language you learn does not matter. Try everything and try to develop your interests in one place rather than switching later and then persuade what you like. I would suggest going online and searching for more concepts. Commencing from the first semester itself is a win.
Q. Now that you're interned, what are your forthcoming ideas and aspirations?
A. I am not planning to study any further. I have 3 months of internship at Google and I'm hoping to get a full-time opportunity over there., If this doesn't work out then I would be preparing for more interviews because landing a job is harder than getting interned.
